How to evaluate quoting software before you buy it
Fifteen questions to put to any quoting software vendor, why each one matters to your shop, and how VenturusEQ answers each one today. A good answer names something the vendor can show you working in the product, on your own files.
The fifteen questions
Does it read the print, or only the model?
Threads, tolerances, finishes, heat treat and notes live on the drawing. A tool that measures the solid and ignores the sheet leaves the estimator reading the print by hand anyway.

What happens between the geometry and the price?
A price that appears from an upload has hidden assumptions inside it. Ask where a person confirms what the software measured before it is costed.
VenturusEQ Nothing prices until an estimator confirms it. A formula cannot use an unconfirmed geometry value, and every confirmation is ledgered with source, confidence, who and when.
Whose rates does it use?
Rates shipped in the box are somebody else's shop. Ask whether the product ships any rates, and how an operation resolves to one of yours.
VenturusEQ None are shipped. An operation resolves through a rate ladder: operation override, then work-center rate, then setup and run hours times labor and machine rates. The arm used is recorded on the line.
Can I see how every dollar was built?
A single number per part cannot be defended to a customer or corrected after the job. Ask for the build-up.
VenturusEQ Five buckets: material, labor, subcontract, overhead and other. Every dollar is quantity times unit cost or hours times rate, with the source shown.
How does it handle quantities, setup and margin?
Setup amortization and margin rules are where spreadsheets quietly disagree. Ask how breaks and margin are governed.
VenturusEQ Up to 30 quantity breaks with setup amortized per break, a house margin or markup with a per-line override, an expedite ladder and add-ons marked required or optional.
What does my customer receive?
A PDF that gets retyped into a PO is a hand-off you cannot see. Ask what the buyer can do and what is frozen when they act.
VenturusEQ A signed-out digital quote page: pick a break, an expedite and optional add-ons, decline lines, download the PDF, accept with name, email, title and PO. The acceptance is a frozen document.
Who owns the data, and how do I get it back?
Ask for the statement in writing, whether your data trains anyone's models, and what the return path is.
VenturusEQ A security and data ownership statement served from the product: return in open formats on request, no training on your data, and an on-premises option on request.
How are controlled files handled?
Ask where controlled bytes are stored, who can open them, and whether there is a record of every open that can be verified.

Where does it run, and is there an on-premises option?
Ask what the deployment is made of and whether models leave the boundary to be measured.

What leaves the system, and how?
Ask exactly what a hand-off carries, whether it is signed, and what formats you can export without asking anyone.
